Medical Career

Prior to opening iCARE4U, Dr. Cohen fashioned a formidable professional medical career in the Washington, D.C. area, working in private practice for 25 years. He has compiled a reputation for both his experience and expertise as a health care practitioner—and earned the highest marks for his warmth and compassion in treating patients. In recognition of all of those attributes, he was recently named a Washington, D.C.-Baltimore-Northern Virginia "Super Doctor" for 2011.

Dr. Cohen's medical achievements are as distinctive as they are distinguished. His longstanding interest in foot and ankle imaging led him to master the ultrasound examination of the foot for the diagnosis of Morton's Neuroma. That among other accomplishments helped earn him recognition as one of the D.C. area's top imaging physicians and prompted his becoming the current Director of MR Imaging for Washington Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and the Medical Director of Imaging at the David Drew Clinic. He is also helping to develop a national virtual foot ankle imaging practice for National Diagnostic Imaging, a tele-radiology company for which he serves as director of the foot and ankle division as an independent contractor.

His membership in a myriad of professional societies reflects the scope and success of Dr. Cohen's medical career. He has held a variety of prominent positions with the D.C. Medical Society—serving as chairman of both the Building & Finance Committees and sitting on the Board of Trustees—and belongs to the Radiologic Society of America and the American Roentgen Ray Society. He has been published in such publications as the American Journal of Roentgenology and the Journal of Computed Tomography, and has made presentations to medical groups, including the Washington, Maryland and Virginia Podiatric Societies, the Virginia Occupational Health Conference and others.

During his years in private practice, Dr. Cohen developed an impressive pattern of gravitating toward medical areas of interest and developing those into areas of expertise. Following some extensive studying, he was acknowledged for his cutting edge work with Paranasal Sinus Imaging. Having taken a surgical course on functional endoscopic sinus surgery, he and a fellow physician introduced the local medical community to the screening CT of the sinuses.

Education/Training

Dr. Cohen's personal and educational backgrounds have a strong local flavor; he is a native Washingtonian who grew up in D.C. and later moved to Bethesda, Md. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Emory University, he returned to his hometown and earned a Masters degree in Physiology and finally his Medical Degree, both at Georgetown University. He completed an internship at the Washington Hospital Center and a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at The George Washington University Medical Center before participating in a Fellowship in Body Imaging at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.
